Purulent Jacuzzi – Vanished in the Cosmic Futility

Two years after the release of Stench of the Drowned Carrion, Purulent Jacuzzi released the more abstractly named Vanished in the Cosmic Futility. The first improvement is in the cover art. The cover for Stench of the Drowned Carrion was a dark and sloppy green and red mess. On this cover, you can actually tell what the elements are supposed to represent. This improved cover art got me excited, so I pressed play, and sure enough, they do not disappoint.

First of all, the snare doesn't sound so tinny and it's no longer so high in the mix. The guitars are also more complex, displaying even more technical noodling than they did on the last album. This element is especially prominent on songs like “The Endless Anesthesia” and “Last Phase Of The Leptospiriosis”. Not only that, but the vocals are deeper and less squealy. They also perform this strange croak on “Vortex of the Inanity” that fits nicely with the lunacy of the music.

Complementing this musical growth are two strange songs near the end. The first is called “Pulsatory”. It begins with some sort of tribal instrument, a didgeridoo maybe? This section lasts for awhile before cutting to a more traditional death metal section where maniacal screams are intertwined with clean vocals. What an odd juxtaposition. It also happens to be the longest song on the album. The second strange song, “Regurgitation Asylum”, is an electronic/dark ambient piece. There's not much to say other than, “It sounds creepy.”

Vanished in the Cosmic Futility” maybe more insane than the Time Cube guy, but that just makes me love them more. It's a lovable kind of insanity, like Nietzsche near the end.
