A lot of people were disappointed with “For Which He Plies the Lash”, but I liked it. Two years later, the band released an EP entitled Cremation Is Irreversible. To call this album a punch to the nuts would be an understatement.
For one thing, the band heard people's complaints about how there wasn't enough distortion on “For Which He Plies the Lash”, so they responded, “You want distortion? Well here's your fucking distortion!” They cranked the distortion ridiculously high on this album. We're talking Pyha-level distortion. It's a lot to take in at first, but with repeated listens, you'll eventually get used to it.
This EP is unique in that it goes around in a cycle. The first song begins with clean vocal chanting before blasting forth with blackened punkish violence which then leads into a groovy mid-paced riff and finally ends with some clean guitars. The second song begins with some clean guitars before raging forth with more razor riffs and lunatic howls. We then get back to the mid-paced grooves before it finally ends with clean vocal chanting. The album essentially goes around in one big circle. The cover actually gives us a hint as to the nature of this album. The ring represents the cyclical nature of the universe, and the snake below it brings to mind visions of Ouroboros, the snake who eats his own tail for all eternity.
This EP proves that Ash Pool isn't fucking around anymore. They are fully charged, and they will fuck you up.
