Moonquest – Moonquest

When I saw the name Moonquest, my mind immediately went to Brodyquest. I then remembered that Moonquest is a black metal band and has nothing to do with Brodyquest. Unfortunate, I know. Let's see if the music lives up to expectations.

This is sort of a mixed bag. I really like the acoustic guitars and the ambient elements. They create sort of an otherworldly atmosphere. I also like the reverb effect on the rasps that make it sound like he's drowning. The drum machine is also great when it's playing slow rhythms. On the other hand, the distorted guitars sound real amateurish, as though he hasn't practiced enough. The drum machine becomes really obvious during the black metal parts. The ambient parts felt wondrous, but the black metal parts feel like a pain in the ass to get through. Sometimes the snare would become a clicking sound during the black metal parts and this got on my nerves real fast. I would have preferred it if the entire album was ambient.

When this album is good, it's really good, but when it's bad, it's REALLY bad. I wouldn't really recommend it. You're better off listening to Brodyquest.
