Bandcamp Roundup Vol. 9

Hi everybody! For Christmas I got "No They Can't" by John Stossel, the Kirby anniversary collection, a beard trimming kit, and a physical copy of Ritual's "The Resurrection". I also got a present for you. Instead of talking about three bands, I'm going to recommend you six!

ChrisGendo

I remember ChrisGendo. I played a YouTube Poop tennis match with him once. It was a lot of fun. While searching for Touhou on BandCamp, I discovered he's also a music maker. During my time in the YouTube Poop community, I learned that many YouTube Poop makers like listening to either techno or noise, and ChrisGendo's music exhibits both in his music. Some parts are silly, some parts are terrifying, and other parts are incredibly loud, so watch out for that.

2hushit

I also found this while searching for Touhou. Judging by the name and some of the song titles like "Sanae clapping her hot booty in your face" and "The pants is Mokou, the body is just a host", it's obvious this was made by a member of /jp/. It's equal parts ambient bits, funny stuff, and obnoxious noise.

Trist

I remember Trist's work being really distorted, but they managed to clean it up with this latest offer which is being distributed by Fallen Empire Records. They still play depressive black metal, but thanks to the cleaned up production, it no longer sounds so inaccessible. It now sounds more akin to walking alone in the middle of a snowstorm through the empty fields at night.

Vrolok

Also available from Fallen Empire Records is Vrolok, a dark passage through the desert of death and decay, with morose mid-paced riffs wrapped in harsh dust and grim croaks echoing beyond the lifeless dunes. It's only two songs long, but the material is great.

Ozoru Hammer

After that bit of dark and grim seriousness, it's time for something silly. Ozoru Hammer is a slamming brutal death metal band that plays songs about Dragon Ball Z Abridged. They play slow and sick slams with guttural growls that are occasionally interspersed with audio clips from the show. It's definitely better than all those dead serious brutal death metal bands that play shitty music and have an obsession with slowing things down to a crawl by including unnecessary horror movie audio clips at any given moment.

Xanthochroid

And now we finish things off with Xanthochroid. Don't let the name scare you off, because let me tell you that these guys play amazing and insanely technical Emperor-worship that is occasionally interspersed with majestic and somber acoustic guitar and violin sections. The drums let loose all these vicious blast beats and complex fills, the guitars have a great deal of melody to them, and the clean vocals really spice things up. If you really like what you hear, make sure to buy a physical copy for the best experience. I just wish I also asked for this for Christmas.
