Sheogorath – Demo 2012

Sheogorath is the daedric prince of madness. He lives in the realm of Oblivion known as the Shimmering Isles. He loves cheese and- oh wait, wrong Sheogorath. This Sheogorath is a black metal band from America. I can't really find any information about them other than that they released their first demo back in 2012.

First of all, this demo is incredibly raw. All of the instruments are recorded in the same room at the same time. Also, there's no reverb effect on the screams. Hearing the raw screams gives you this uncomfortable feeling. It's something that would make your back hairs stand on end. Since all the elements are recorded at once, the production is kind of muddy, but that just gives it a punk aesthetic and a more honest feeling.

As I said before, the raw production makes the drums sound kind of muddy and there are times when the double bass drowns everything out, but they are still well-performed and throw in a great deal of sweet fills. The guitars have a black metal tone to them, but the riffs they play sound more akin to punk, thus giving the music more melody. As I said before, there is no reverb on the screams. The best way I can describe them is that they sound like a madman who is screaming about demons that are clawing at his brain.

I like this band's raw display, especially the madman screams. Countless metal bands are named after stuff found in the Tolkien universe. We need more bands who are named after stuff found in the Elder Scrolls universe. I just hope Bethesda's lawyers don't get pissy about it.
