Doom Formation was a short-lived death metal band from Delaware that formed in 1993, released only one demo called Definition of Evil in 1995, and broke up shortly thereafter. I heard they recorded some other stuff after this demo, but it was never released because they were never able to get a record deal. If the world had Bandcamp back then, I don't think this would have happened.
This demo is dirty, filthy death. The production is cloudy and raw, as though this was recorded in a mausoleum. Brad Arnold is a total beast on the drums. The album is chock full of elaborate rhythms, stomping double bass, rampaging blast beats, and wild fills. I especially like his insane performance near the end of “Visions Of Ungodly Dreams”. The deep growls sound like they came from a guy who had just emerged from his grave. The guitars have that old Cannibal Corpse vibe and churn out lots of menacing mid-paced riffs. They also throw in some wild solos on occasion.
For me, the main problem with this demo is that the drums are too high in the mix. I can hardly hear the guitars. I also hated the last track, which consisted only of this idiot growling nonsense, a baby who wouldn't stop crying, and random noises. Seriously, what was the point of that last song, to annoy us? If that was the case, they sure succeeded. Aside from those problems, this demo is great. The guitars play some real tasty riffs, the growls are deep and remind me of a young Chris Barnes, and the drums, despite being too high in the mix, are extremely well-played. It's a pity they never released anything else.
