Relics of Humanity is a brand new brutal death metal band from Belarus who released their debut full-length, Guided by the Soulless Call, just last year. It's quite surprising for a metal band of this nature to emerge from Belarus, as it's one of the poorest and most repressive countries in Europe. Will these conditions give them a more brutal sound? Let's find out.
These guys make some pretty nice slam, but the biggest problem I have is with the drums. Don't get me wrong, they're played well and dispense a great deal of blast beats and double bass, but they're way too high in the mix, especially when it comes to the snare. I would appreciate if they fix this problem on the next album.
The rest of the music is still good. The growls are really deep and remind me of Condemned. I think they also have an echo which gives them a cavernous quality, as though they were emanated by an ancient cave-dwelling beast. The guitars play those slam riffs we all know and love. They sort of remind me of Abominable Putridity. This makes sense given their close geographical proximity. They also make sure to throw in some riffs that are more complex in their structure.
Overall, their musicianship is great, but they have problems with the production. I recommend that they even out the mix a bit more. Make sure the snare drum doesn't overpower the rest of the mix. I see a lot of potential in these guys and I'm eager to see them improve their craft.
