Impious Blood – Temple of Flesh, Pillars of Bones

Indonesia and Malaysia are two different beasts. While Indonesia focuses on producing brutal death metal in the vein of Suffocation and Dying Fetus, Malaysia is focused on producing vicious blackened death metal similar to bands like Blasphemy and Diocletian. Most of these violent bands formed in just the past five years, and Impious Blood is the latest Malaysian band to fly the bloody banner of unholy war metal with their 2013 demo debut, Temple of Flesh, Pillars of Bones.

Before I get to the blasphemous violence, I just want to get the biggest problem out of the way first: only two of the songs on the demo, “Thorns of Malice” and “Impious Temple of Flesh & Bones”, are actual songs. The other three songs are short ambient pieces that don't enhance the experience in any way. If you really want to leave an impact, just cut the bullshit and get straight to the music. Don't be like Mortician and pad out your album with pointless audio clips.

Aside from that flaw, the music here is amazing. The drums pound your face into an unrecognizable mess with their furious and relentless blast beats. Not only that, but thanks to the perfectly tuned production, every snare sound has a tremendous amount of impact. There ain't no clipping on this demo. The vocals consist of a deep and hoarse growl. They sort of sound like the fierce dragon vocals utilized by Pseudogod. The guitars sound like the revving of a war machine. Their simple and direct delivery will rip and burn your flesh and piss on the ashes. The riff structures also remind me of Pseudogod. I have no problem with that because Pseudogod is awesome.

Sure, only two of the songs on this demo are actual songs, but those songs are fucking awesome. Malaysia's putting out some killer shit, I tell you what. I assume physical copies of this album are in short supply, so if you ever find a physical copy of this album, buy it. Let none stand in your way.
