Hellhate
Let's start things off right with Hellhate from Ukraine. The black metal these guys play is pure second wave goodness complete with drums that are stuck on the blast setting, serrated vocals that sound like a demonic trickster, and riffs as cold as ice. They only have two songs up right now, but I hope they put out more in the future.
Circsena
Sure, the album cover might look cliche, but the music is not. It's a great mixture of atmospheric black metal and post black metal. They even throw in some folk black metal. The drums have a lot of impact to them and the croaking rasps are pretty well-performed, but best of all are the guitars. They're melodic, infectious, and exude a lot of emotion. These guys are another reason why you shouldn't judge an album by its cover.
Exhumed
Did you know that Exhumed is now on Bandcamp? It's true! You can now legally obtain all the band's albums in digital format, even their epic compilation Platters of Splatter! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to listen to their cover of "Material Girl" on repeat.
