Bersimbah Darah means “bloodbath” in Indonesian. “Bloodbath” is the best way I can describe Bersimbah Darah's debut album, Land of Terror. It's a ravenous, crimson display of rampaging death/grind that mows down all that stands in its way.
The drums are relentless, constantly bombarding your ears with rapid blast beats and calamitous cymbal crashes, with a few fills and double bass sections thrown in for good measure. There are even moments where they like to show off a bit of variety, like the drum rolls at the start of “Muntah Darah”. The snare sounds kind of tinny, but I think it fits with the carnage the music exudes. Besides, I let !T.O.O.H.! get away with a snare drum that sounds like a trash can, so why not these guys? The vocals consist of a manic scream and a gruff growl. It sort of like a mix of Nasum and Napalm Death, and I love it.
Speaking of Nasum, not only are the riffs fast and violent, but their structures are quite elaborate and detailed. It's not all mindless, fretboard-destroying mayhem. There is a thought-out process to it. The riffs also manage to be rather infectious at times, such as on “Trapped And No Still Alive”. They even throw in a few solos to spice things up, such as on “Rekonstruksi Darah Kehidupan” and “Threat Of Humanity”.
This album leaves a trail of blood and destruction in its wake. From short bursts of rage like “Biawak (Grind And Roll)” to groove-filled epics like “Dead Shall Rise”, Bersimbah Darah put on a grinding performance that is just plain excellent.
