Moxham Castle – Consume EP

Moxham Castle is a band that fuses death metal and crust punk. They were formed by a group of kids from Sydney, Canada and from what I can gather, they're named after this old castle that was torched by vandals in 1966. I'm intrigued to see how well they'll be able to fuse death metal and crust punk, so let's listen.

Since they include crust punk into their music, it sort of sounds like grindcore. I like this. The musicianship is pretty nice as well. The drums are minimalistic and mainly stick to simple rhythms and blast beats. With music like this, that's pretty much all you need. I also like how prominent the cymbals are. They add a bit of dissonance to the music.

The vocals mainly consist of a sickened black metal-type scream that is frantic and enhances the gritty atmosphere of the music. Occasionally, they'll also perform some harsh growls that add a nice bit of variety. Since some of the members used to play punk, they also perform a few punkish shouts that fit surprisingly well with the rest of the music. As for the guitars, they play a lot of fast, crusty riffs that have a slightly black metal tone to them. They're simple but quite pleasing to the ears. They don't beat around the bush. Their primary focus is to tear shit up and give you a headbanging good time.

Overall, these kids were able to fuse death metal, black metal, and crust quite well. The music is simple but really fun. I recommend it to any fan of straightforward, no-bullshit extreme metal.
