Something tells me that Nexul must be some really hot stuff, because even though they formed just this year, they already got signed to Hells Headbangers Records and the cover of their first demo, Nexulzifer, features artwork by the great Antichrist Kramer. I'm eager to see what these guys have to offer.
Oh yeah, these guys are awesome. Right from the start, we're greeted with wailing guitars that sound reminiscent of Slayer before descending into some utterly dark and menacing death metal. The production is a fearsome wall of sound that vaporizes all in its path. The drums are an absolute beast. Their blast beats are rapid and fierce and the powerful cymbal work further enhances the destructive war noise.
The vocals consist of that deep, hoarse growl that is popular with other war metal bands such as Pseudogod. They possess a ghostly reverb and they fit perfectly with the mayhem the music creates. The guitars are utterly infernal. The tone and distortion are thick and crunchy, and although the riffs are fast and shredding, they possess a certain groove. They then top off these great riffs with some wailing solos that sound quite similar to Slayer.
The people over at Hells Headbangers Records were wise to sign these guys. This is some of the most promising blackened death metal I've heard in a long time. I can't wait to see what these infernal Texans will do next.
