Leviathan Rising
Leviathan Rising is a brand new black metal band from New Zealand that offers up some really powerful mid-paced riffs. The raspy vocals sort of remind me of Oak Pantheon, the guitar tone sounds almost like depressive black metal at times, and it's packed full of great moments that radiate melody. All of this is wrapped up in amazing production.
Vlk
Vlk is a completely different beast altogether. Their production is much rawer, their tone is darker and more mysterious, and they are much more primal in nature. Whereas Leviathan Rising is a stroll through a wondrous landscape, Vlk takes you to the cold reaches of deep space.
Throaat
Throaat! Throaat! Throaat is a death/thrash band from Brooklyn and they are old school as fuck. The production is filthy and gritty, the bass is really prominent in the mix, the blast beats are simple and straightforward, the angry shouts sound like they're resonating from a long forgotten crypt, and the riffs are villainous and haunting. Pure excellence.
