Sorry, no album cover.
Danger Cross was one of the first death metal bands from Greece. They formed way back in 1985, released two demos in 1989, and split up shortly afterward. This was the only demo of theirs I could find. Last time I checked, their work is really rare, and their Last.fm page only has 35 fans. Well, let's give this a spin, shall we?
Since these guys hail from the first wave of death metal, the thrash metal influence is still present. The guitar tuning is a bit higher than modern death metal and the riffs and rhythms are more thrash metal in nature.
The production is kind of muddy, as is typical for a demo, but you can still hear everything pretty well. Since this was before death metal got all uber-serious, the music has sort of a light-hearted feel, which can best be seen in the riffs. They're pretty catchy and well-crafted, and the solos have a frantic energy about them.
The drums alternate between mid-paced rhythms and simple blast beats with occasional fills. They're well-played and don't make any mistakes. The bass can hardly be heard most of the time due to the production, but when they do show up, they display a great deal of flair. The vocals are those proto-growls that were commonplace back during death metal's infancy. Although they're not the best, they don't distract from the rest of the music in any way.
Overall, this is a pretty decent early death metal demo, and it really shows just how far death metal has come since those days.
