Bacchius – Blessed Horned

After Drutentus broke up, Voreas formed Bacchius (or Βάκχειος in its original Greek). Unfortunately, he recorded only one song under that name before disbanding. Most bands are able to release at least one demo, but only one song? That's some kind of rarity.

The guitars play a great deal of riffs that pay homage to the Norwegian black metal scene. They're not original by any means, but they're played really well. The drum machine may sound obvious, but the riffs help you ignore it. The bass is kind of low in the mix, but there are certain times when it's able to stick its head out. The vocals are your standard rasps, but they're also accompanied by growls. One final touch they add is the flute that shows up at the beginning and end of the song.

It may have its flaws and it may sound derivative, but I like this little demo. I just wish they recorded more than one song.
