Almost nothing is known about Eructation. All I know is that they formed in Sweden in 1988, released their only demo in 1992, then they vanished. Though their body of work is only three songs long, the music they've made is downright legendary.
Even though this is a demo, the production is superb. The sound is thick, but you can still hear everything clearly. The one thing that makes Eructation stand out among their Swedish peers is how prominent the bass is. It's high in the mix, but it's not so high it drowns out everything else. The bassist then uses this to his advantage, as he shows off his impeccable skill at plucking some great riffs, and adding a great deal of texture to the music.
Speaking of riffs, this demo is full of them. They're fast and they hit hard, but they still manage to remain catchy, especially near the end of the last song. The drumming is equally impressive, frequently switching up from blast beats to mid-paced rhythms to drilling double bass with ease, and they still manage to throw in a great deal of fills. The vocals consist of a raspy growl and sort of remind me of David Vincent back in his early days.
Eructation is an anomaly. They're a death metal band from Sweden, yet they don't really sound like any other Swedish death metal band. They don't adhere to any certain “brand” of Swedish death metal. Instead, they just went off and did their own thing. This may have been the only thing they released, but it sure left a big impression on me.
