The Garrotte was an execution device that was used in Spain for hundreds of years. The condemned was tied to a stake with a loops of rope around his neck. A wooden stick was placed in the loop, and by rotating the stick, the rope was tightened until the condemned was strangled to death. Why am I telling you this? Because the band we're reviewing is called Garrotte, who have just released their first EP, Count The Almonds, and listening to it is like being killed by a garrotte. And I mean that in a positive way.
The production is extremely distorted and sort of reminds me of their compatriots, Slaegt. The extreme levels of distortion work in their favor, as they create an uncomfortable, strangulating atmosphere. The guitars have sort of a punkish feel to them, similar to Ash Pool. They're unimaginable aggressive and vitriolic, but they still have a melodic feel to them. The screams also remind me of Ash Pool, although with a bit more reverb. Due to the distortion, the drums are hard to hear, but they're really well done, as they display great proficiency for both rapid blasts and more mid-paced punkish rhythms.
Garrotte is not for delicate virgin ears. It is only for the manly kvlt men who do not fear the monstrous distortion. If you are a manly kvlt man, go get this album today.
