Prospect of Immortality was another obscure death metal band that managed to release only one demo before splitting up. These types of bands sure are common in death metal.
The production is much better than most other obscure death metal demos. I can hear all of the instruments rather well. The music is also much better than most other obscure death metal bands. The vocals consist of a deep shout, and he sounds like Chris Barnes back in the late 80s. The drums sound kind of cheap and sound more like a drum machine than actual drums, but they're well-played nonetheless, pounding out blast beats and fills with tireless devotion.
The guitars are easily the best part of the demo. The production gives them this crunchy sound, and the riffs are well-written and pretty catchy to boot. Best of all are the solos. They have a thrash metal feel and are tuned beautifully. They'll have to be heard to be believed. The biggest surprise was the last song where they played these thrash metal-inspired clean guitars in the rain. That was such a great way to finish off an album.
This demo is leagues better than most of the stuff I've been listening to lately. I'll be adding this to my “one demo wonder” list.
