Chthe'ilist – Amechth'ntaas'm'rriachth

Chthe'ilist is an unpronounceable band that just released unpronounceable album. I can't really find much information about them, and from what I've learned, this is their first demo.

The music Chthe'ilist plays can best be described as cryptic doom/death. They appear to draw a great deal of influence from Demilich. Even the really long song titles remind me of Demilich. However, whereas I think Demilich are boring and overrated, I like the music Chthe'ilist makes. The vocals frequently switch between the bellows of a demon general and the croaking burps of a swamp monster. Evil and disgusting, just how death metal vocals are supposed to be. They even manage to spice things up by including deep clean vocals that remind me of The Ruins of Beverast.

The drums exhibit that perfect combination of being both hard-hitting and complex. They play a lot of unorthodox beats and complex fills with a lot of impressive cymbal work, and there are moments where they remind me of Pete Sandoval's work in Morbid Angel. The guitars have this dark and gritty sound to them, just like many other death metal bands nowadays, frequently switching between fast paced sections and more mid-paced groove-tinged sections. However, they don't stop there. Beneath the layers, you'll find riffs pulled from black metal, doom metal sections backed up by ominous symphonic keyboards, mind-destroying Trey Azagthoth-inspired solos, and there are even some melodic riffs that remind me of depressive black metal.

Chthe'ilist. Although their name is unpronounceable, their instrumental skill and knack for songwriting is impeccable.
