I don't really know much about Sanskaras. All I know is that they're a doom/death band from Kansas City, which I thought was pretty cool. Unfortunately, most of that city is in Missouri, so they can't really be called a Kansas band.
After listening to this album, they aren't really doom/death so much as they are death metal with some elements of groove and Swedish melodic death metal, although the last song sounds more like blackened death metal. I'm not really a groove-loving man. I find the style too simplistic. But the guitars are still well-played regardless. I wish the drums were more complex, but then again, it befits the style. Going back to the guitars, there are times when they play black metal-inspired tremolo riffs and even a few solos to spice things up. The vocals are your standard raspy growl. They don't really stand out, but they're still good.
Although Sanskaras don't really play my style of music, they play it well, and I'm sure some people will enjoy it.
