Bound Bible is an obscure black metal band composed of two guys: one from England and one from America. The guy from America is also the mastermind behind This Station of Life, Aksumite, and other bands, so I'm hoping this will be good.
At first, I was expecting an extremely raw, heavily distorted, borderline noise affair, but the production here is of the murky, cloudy variety, which I really like. The drums are slow and plodding, hidden deep in the muck, and their sound reminds me of Xasthur. The vocals also remind me of Xasthur, as they're shrouded in a thick cloud of fuzzy distortion and sound like the agonized wails of a poltergeist. The guitars still play slow, cold riffs that form a dark and miserable atmosphere, but they also these more melodic, higher pitched riffs that also remind me of Xasthur. These melodic riffs further reinforce the feeling of misery the demo exudes.
After listening to a lot of harsh, abrasive, borderline noise black metal bands, Bound Bible is a refreshing change of pace. It's an excellent reflection of seething hate and despair.
