Shrouded Deity – Omens

I couldn't find much information about Shrouded Deity. All I know is that they were a blackened death metal band from Cherry Hill, New Jersey. They formed in 1994, released their only demo one year later, and broke up shortly thereafter.

This demo is only two songs long, but there's a lot of great stuff on here. They play death metal riffs played through a black metal filter. They also implement some keyboards in order to enhance the atmosphere. The drums are extremely energetic, unleashing a great deal of pounding blasts with lots of intricate fills. Even though this is a demo, the bass can be heard quite well, plodding alongside the guitars. The vocals consist of an impish black metal rasp and a demonic death metal growl. Both are performed well and complement each other. The guitars play a lot of riffs that remind me of Deicide and Cannibal Corpse, as well as some great chugging and slow sections that fit well with the demonic image they're trying to portray. They even play some stuff that borders on brutal death metal.

Yet another one demo wonder. Yet another great band that never got a chance to leave their mark on the world. I don't know much about Shrouded Deity, but I do know that they've made something amazing here.
