Somewhere in California there lurks a band with the... um, “lovely” name of Fields of Rape. They crawled out of the shadows just last year and have since released a demo and a split. I could only find their demo. It's called War in the Homeland, and judging by the title, I have a feeling these guys are a tad bit racist.
This demo has five songs that have a combined length of seven minutes. The blackened noise assault begins and ends before you even have time to comprehend what's going on. The drums have pretty bad production as the snare sounds like a metallic bonk, but they're absolutely vicious in their delivery, combining fast punk rhythms with ravenous black metal blasts. The guitars are extremely distorted and the riffs remind me of Ythogtha. They have a dash of melody and a punk vibe to them. The nasty rasps and howls are also cloaked in a corrosive distortion cloud, and they, too, sound similar to Ythogtha.
The last two songs were played live in some godforsaken venue. The performance is still fantastically violent but the production is horrible, and personally, I think they're just throwaway songs they tacked on there in order to pad out the length of the demo. Other than that, this was a splendidly evil display of blackened noise. Highly recommended for fans of Ythogtha.
