Hellnomorf – Limbus

Hellnomorf was an obscure death metal band from Mexico that released only two demos before splitting up. I was only able to find their last demo, Limbus.

The production is a lot better than on most other demos I've heard. I can hear all the instruments nicely and nothing is clouded, although the impact of the drums sounds too soft. Speaking of drums, they frequently switch between blasts and slow rhythms sections with plenty of double bass and fills scattered in between. The bass lurks beneath the other instruments and provides a more fleshed-out feel to the music. The guitars offer up plenty of chugging rhythms and dark tremolo riffs, as well as a plethora of noodling solos. The vocals consist of this hoarse, throaty growl which sound like an old man who has been possessed by a demon. They're not the best, but they get the job done.

What I find bizarre about this demo is their random transitions into bluesy sections. They show up without warning and disrupt the death metal assault. I'm okay with including bluesy sections in metal, but they should have a reason. Hellnomorf, in my opinion, did this rather haphazardly. Aside from this flaw, the music they've made here is pretty decent.
