House of Apparition – Spectre Tape

House of Apparition is a black metal band from California and belongs to Fallow Field, the label that also released Black Beasts' EP, so I'm expecting more blackened noise.

Sure enough, I'm right, but this is a different kind of blackened noise. Whereas the distortion of Black Beasts burns at the flesh like acid, the distortion House of Apparition implements is more on the cloudy side, like the angry voices inside a haunted house. The drums frequently switch between rampaging blast beats and more ominous mid-paced rhythms.

Due to the cloudy distortion, the guitars sound more ghostly. Sometimes they'll play some dark and swirling tremolo riffs, and other times they will play some mid-paced riffs that are tinged with punk. They will also play some sorrowful riffs, like on “The Isolated Man”. The vocals consist of an angry scream and sound like a poltergeist that is telling you to leave his house.

If you want yourself some blackened noise but don't your ear drums to be slashed apart, then I suggest you check out House of Apparition.
