Virvatulet is a black metal band from Finland that, in 2011, released a powerful and beautiful demo, one of the best demos I've heard in a long time.
The centerpiece of this are the guitars. The melody they exude is so vibrant and brings an amazing array of colors to what is usually a bleak gray landscape. Most black metal bands only focus on the grim and evil, but the guitars played by Virvatulet show the magnificent beauty that is present in this world. In terms of drums, the snare strikes hard and makes a really strong presence. They also play a lot of fills to keep the music engaging. The vocals are rather rare, but they consist of well-performed Burzum worship.
This was such a beautiful demo. Very few black metal bands could ever hope to make music this pleasing to the ears. The guitars are absolutely angelic in their sound. I hope these guys make more music soon.
