Infaustus was a death metal band from Anaheim, California that formed in 1992, released only one demo called Re-Creation a year later, and broke up shortly thereafter. Their guitarist, Gary Griffith, later went on to join the Portuguese doom/death band Before the Rain. Other than that, I know nothing else about these guys.
The only good part about this demo was the cheesy summoning ritual at the beginning. The rest is just a big batch of boring. First of all, the production is too quiet. I have to crank my speakers way up to hear anything at all. Once I turned up the volume, I encountered the worst aspect of this album: the vocals. It's obvious that Eric Muniz was unable to perform proper death metal vocals, so they applied a demonic effect to his voice. That is a cheap copout. If you're unable to do proper death metal vocals, then don't fucking do death metal vocals. Unless you're a goregrind band, you have no business applying effects to your vocals.
The rest of the music is a load of ass too. They mainly stick to slow and mid-paced rhythms. Unfortunately for them, they have no interesting riffs to justify their use. I have a feeling they played slow because they weren't skilled enough to play fast. Some of the drum work is pretty interesting, but that's only when they feel like being interesting. Most of the time they stick to playing boring rhythms and substandard double bass. Some of the guitar work is pretty interesting too, like that solo near the end of “Aborted Holiness”, but most of the guitar work consists of boring, mediocre rhythms that make no attempt to be memorable or even listenable.
I don't believe in Satan, but if Satan does exist, then I would summon him and have him destroy all the copies of this demo. I would then have him kill the assholes who recorded the demo in the first place. Except for Gary Griffith. He went on to join a band that didn't suck.
