Caffa – Day of Disease

I can't really find much information about these guys, but from what I've gathered, they're a pretty new death metal band that reside in Oakland. Day of Disease is their first album. As you can plainly see, the album cover is a complete mess. This means the music will either suck chunks from a shit bucket or be brutally awesome.

Luckily for me, these guys play good music. It might start off slow, what with the bass plucking at the beginning, but they use that to lead us into some thick and chunky doom/death. The snare is quite prominent in the mix and each strike sounds like a smack to the face. The drums mainly play slow, crushing rhythms, but there are times when they also play blast beats. Right from the start, the bass is high in the mix and makes the music feel like blood-stained miasma.

The vocals mainly consist of deep growls that reek of Incantation. They perfectly match the feel of the album cover. They're sick, nasty, and just plain fantastic. The guitars, as can be expected from a doom/death release, are mainly slow and foreboding, occasionally playing fast riffs to keep things interesting. Aside from playing this bloody, chunky riffs, they also play a few riffs that remind me of thrash metal, especially at the start of “Catapult Corpse”.

I thought I was going to hate this album, but I love their bloody, infectious display of doom/death. You can hear their work at their official Bandcamp page.
