Conflict X were a death/grind band from Greece. They formed in 1998 and released only one demo called Dead Set Statement before splitting up sometime later. Other than that, I don't know anything about these guys, but I also know that even though they know how to play their instruments, they don't know how to keep my interest.
One thing I will complement them on is that even though this is a demo, the production is still pretty good. I can hear the instruments quite well and the distortion gives the music a sort of crunchiness. Unfortunately, I can't really find anything good to say about the instruments. The drums are rather minimalist, playing simple punk-flavored beats with a few fills scattered throughout. There are a few times when they play blast beats, but they mainly stick to a mid-paced rhythm.
The vocals are rather deep and sound quite similar to most of the other extreme metal bands that were roaming around Greece during that time. However, they do nothing to catch my attention. They do nothing to stand out. They just sort of blend into the background. The guitars play simple death/grind riffs and the tone sounds a lot like Cannibal Corpse. Unfortunately, the riffs they play are completely stock. They can't hold my interest at all.
The highest compliment I can afford these guys is that they know how to play their instruments. I can't really say the same about other obscure death metal bands. However, if you desire to make good music, simply knowing how to play your instruments just won't cut it. You also need to know how to write interesting songs, which is something Conflict X obviously can't do.
