Ilmestys – Demo I

Ilmestys is another one of those mysterious blackened punk bands, this time from Toronto. It's the product of one man named Eric King, a former member of a death metal band called Slaughter Strike. Ilmestys released their first demo last year, and let me tell you that it's some real corrosive and violent shit.

Everything is packed into one song that falls one second short of the twelve minute mark. The music can best be described as an obscene and abrasive blackened punk assault. The extremely lo-fi production with its corrosive distortion makes the music sound like it was recorded in an old warehouse with equipment they found in the dumpster out back. Simply put, I love it.

The drums alternate between furious blast beats and slower punk rhythms. They perform both styles with excellence, and I love how the cymbal work creates a swirling razor cloud that can turn anyone into a fine red mist in seconds. The vocals are a lot like Ash Pool and other similar bands in that they consist of a heavily distorted scream that exude total insanity. The guitars play punkish riffs through a black metal filter, and although they are incredibly distorted, they exhibit a bit of infectiousness in the riffs they play.

Music like this does not compromise. It takes no prisoners. Ilmestys is violent, acidic, razor storm fury that will reduce you to an unrecognizable crimson mess. Also, they make fantastic raw blackened punk. You should listen to them.
