Loyal reader Barney Hill told me that Me'ex released a new demo called El Renegado. I think you all might remember my bad experience with Me'ex's first demo, but since I'm grateful for any comments I get, I decided to download their new demo and listen to it. I wish I hadn't.
First of all, this demo is just one track that lasts for eighteen minutes. Why? Seriously, why? If you're gonna make a song that long, you better make it damn interesting. Unfortunately for Me'ex, they don't make it interesting. Instead, they went out of their way to make this song as dreadfully boring as possible.
The first four minutes of the song just consist of simple guitar strumming with some flutes and maracas that show up on occasion. Also, the guy makes several mistake while playing these chords. I'm not surprised. After four minutes of tedious, badly-played acoustic music, we finally get to the music, and wouldn't you know it, the Rock Band drums kit rears its ugly head. I wanted to stop the song right there, but I knew I was obligated to listen to this song all the way to the end. At around the eight minute mark, they get lazy and decide to just play random riffs and drum beats.
They then go back to playing acoustic, but the Rock Band drum kit still remains. Then we hear some chick perform some really cheesy operatic singing. So what, did he get his mom to perform on the album? They then go back to playing agonizingly boring black metal, and at this point I have the urge to stab myself in the ears with an ice pick so I won't be subject to this noisy torture anymore. Luckily, I didn't succumb to grief, and I managed to strength it out all the way to the end. The end is nothing more than the bass playing some random notes. But let me tell you, if I hear one more maraca, someone's gonna get hurt.
Me'ex, please, STOP MAKING MUSIC! Sell off your Rock Band drum kit and get a job!
