Pester The Pure – Pester The Pure

The Greeks are pissed off, and this anger has been channeled into creating some of the best metal I've heard in quite a while. The latest Greek metal band to grace my ears calls itself Pester The Pure, and their self-titled debut EP is wild, mind-boggling, and just plain awesome.

This EP is packed with so much insanity I don't even know where to begin. I guess I'll start with the drums. They're both ferocious and complex, doling out insane blast beats and intricate fills in equal measure. The snare has a great deal of punch to it, and the cymbals are quite raucous in their sound, especially during the intense blasting sections. The vocals consist of an extremely deep growl. It sounds like the ghastly emanations of some grotesque flesh beast. Their performance reminds me of Monumental Torment, and I love it.

The guitars are the best part. The drums maybe complex, but the guitars easily beat them in the complexity department. They play your standard brutal death metal riffs, but they also play these wild noodling sections that really spice up the experience. Luckily, they don't add so many noodling sections that it ruins the palette. They will also occasionally play these odd start-stop riffs that are quite similar to djent. I don't really like djent, but I like what's being done here. These riffs really add to the insanity of the music. They then top off this mad concoction with some shredding solos that tear ass all over the place.

Pester The Pure is so awesome. It's a perfect mixture of complexity, insanity, and all-out brutality. When you combine this intense music with the occasional bits of ambiance and noise and a few audio clips that actually complement the music as opposed to distracting from it, then you'll be in for an amazing experience. Go get this album today!
