Rottenblast is a brutal death metal band that hails from Malang, Indonesia. Most Indonesian brutal death metal bands I know usually come from places like Jakarta and Bandung, so this is the first time I've encountered a band from Malang. Brutality In The World is their first demo. Is it any good. Let's find out.
The production on this demo is a bit better than most others I've heard. I can hear the instruments quite clearly and nothing is muffled, but I just wish the bass drums didn't sound like a typewriter. The music itself is your standard brutal death metal. The drums do a lot of blasting with plenty of double bass, fills, and clattering cymbal work. Overall, the drums on this demo are a bit better than the ones I've heard on most other demos.
The guitars have a heavy and clear guitar tone. Again, this is mostly due to the above average production. Unlike most other bands of their type, they don't slam slam slam all the time. Instead, it's more focused on churning out angry, hard-hitting riffs. Some have a hint of groove while others lean more towards the technical side. I really like the guitars here. The guy shredding on the fretboard clearly has a lot of talent and I love his fast technical riffs.
The one thing that hindered this demo, though, were the vocals. I take it he tried to perform these inhaled growls, but they come off as really weak. He should have gone the guttural route. Other than that, I like the performance Rottenblast put on. I especially like the guitars. I like how they didn't take the easy way out and just filled the demo with a bunch of simple slam riffs.
