Thanks to ReverbNation, a whole bunch of Indonesian brutal death metal bands have been coming out of the woodworks. One of the latest bands is Rottenatomy, who hail from, you guessed it, Bandung. Let's see what they got.
This demo hits with the force of a barbarian invasion. The drums are fast and relentless, constantly launching a bombardment of blast beats complemented with lots of double bass and intricate fills. They're totally awesome, but the star of the show is the guitar. Sure, they play your standard brutal rhythms and pinch harmonics, but sometimes the riffs go into elaborate technical territory, and they even get quite infectious, as is the case on the last song. Best of all are the solos. Judging by the tone and structure, I take it they're huge fans of Vital Remains. I really like that. I'm just surprised that more bands aren't trying to imitate those angry Floridians.
The only part I didn't like were the vocals. They consist of this really deep guttural that sounds haphazard and incomprehensible. Personally, I would have preferred it if they utilized growls in the vein of Glen Benton. However, the hoarse growls make up for it.
To be honest, I was expecting this to be another shitty slam demo. I was pleasantly surprised. This demo is filled with furious drumming, sweet riffs, and excellent solos that give praise to Vital Remains. I can't wait to hear more from these guys.
