Sapanakith – Collapsing Of Immoral Traditions

I don't really know much about Laos. All I know is that Kahn Souphanousinphone of King of the Hill comes from there. Today I learned that Sapanakith also comes from there. In fact, Sapanakith has the honor of being Laos's first brutal death metal band, forming all the way back in 2010. Unfortunately, that's the only thing going for them, as their music is rather average.

The drummer is primarily focused on blasting until his arms fall off, with a few bits of double bass and fills in an attempt to prove to people that he's not a one trick pony. The vocals consist of a low guttural that sounds utterly indistinguishable from every other guttural growler in the genre. The guitars sound most similar to the brutal death metal bands from California. They play a lot of down-tuned shredding riffs with a few slams and pinch harmonics thrown in. Come on, man. I've heard all this riffs before. Can't you do something new?

Overall, this album isn't so good that I can rave about it and it's not so bad that I can rage about it. It's just plain average. Some people might like this, some might hate it. As for me, I don't care either way. They're just an ordinary brutal death metal band in an endless ocean of ordinary brutal death metal bands. That is Sapanakith's biggest problem. The only thing worse than being hated is for people to not care about you at all.
