To be perfectly honest, the early Indonesian brutal death metal scene wasn't very good. The bands were either boring or had no idea how to play their instruments. Luckily, I finally managed to find a band from that era that's somewhat decent. Their name is Sinusitis.
Their music sounds a little like Cannibal Corpse, a little like Cryptopsy, a little like Suffocation, they basically throw together a little bit of everything that was popular back then. One thing I really like about this album is how prominent the bass is. You can hear it quite clearly as it rapidly clacks away alongside the guitars. The drums furiously blast away and throw in plenty of double bass and fills for good measure. However, I wish the snare didn't sound like the guy was pounding on a tin can.
The growls are deep yet hoarse and sound reminiscent to the early works of Deeds of Flesh. I think they're pretty well-performed, and definitely more pleasing to me than Lord Worm's vocal performance on None So Vile. The guitars consist of lots of fast down-tuned riffage which sounds very similar to many of the death metal bands that were popular during that time. They're pretty good, but I can't help but feel that they get repetitive after awhile. Of course, they also throw in a few solos to break up the monotony.
Overall, this was a pretty decent album, and is way better than most of the early Indonesian brutal death metal I've been listening to lately. I'm just glad the scene has vastly improved since its infancy. That's more than what I can say for the Costa Rican metal scene.
