Do you know death? I know death. The band Know Death, that is. Okay, that joke sucked, but these guys don't. And to be perfectly honest, I don't know these guys because I'm unable to find any information about them. All I know is that they formed in Kentucky in 1992, released only one demo called Buried Alive one year later, and broke up soon after that.
These guys essentially play death metal in the vein of Death with just a touch more thrash metal. Despite this being a demo, it was produced really well. It has an extremely thick and heavy sound. Every riff has a great deal of impact. The drums mainly play mid-paced beats, but there are certain moments when they pick up the pace. Each strike of the snare resonates with a great deal of power, and there are also moments where the drums display lots of technical ability such as on “Rot In Hell”. Unlike most other bands, Know Death knows to bring their bass to the forefront. This helps to flesh out the music. I especially enjoy their wild performance on “Rot In Hell”.
The growls are hoarse and harsh and sound almost exactly like Chuck Schuldiner. I even hear a bit of John Tardy in his performance. As with most other old school death metal bands, the best part is the guitars. Although heavily rooted in thrash metal, the riffs are really crunchy and infectious. They're a mostly mid-paced affair, but they like to play some fast shredding riffs every now and then. They're more focused on bringing groove-laced riffs that you can't help but headbang to. Topping it all off are the solos that totally scorch the land with their frantic string work.
I hope you know death now. Know Death, that is. Goddamn it, I made that same shitty joke again. Anyway, Know Death is another awesome one demo wonder and they totally deserve your attention. You'll especially love the infectious riffs and the Chuck Schuldiner worship in the vocals.
