Rawa Pasung is an Indonesian black metal band that comes from the small town of Gombong in the province of Kebumen. They're fiercely nationalistic, which may sour the taste of their music for some people, but I don't care about that. All I care about is the music.
They only have two songs up right now, but they're fantastic. They sound like a mix of the Greek and Norwegian black metal scenes. They're fast, the guitars are tuned high, and they're as cold as ice. The drums are stripped-down and minimalistic, sticking only to rapid blast beats and a few fills. Sometimes, that's all you need. The vocals consist of an impish scream. He sounds like some mischievous creature from ancient folklore. Best of all are the guitars. The Indonesians are great guitarists, and this is obvious here. These riffs are fast and cold, but they also have a touch of catchiness to them. There's even this one time where they play an excellent solo that sounds like a throwback to the days of Venom and Bathory.
Rawa Pasung may only have two songs up right now, but they're excellent. These guys show a lot of promise, and I'm excited to see what they'll make next.
