Cannibal Autopsy – Post Mortem (Dessicate Visceral Licuefaction)

Cannibal Autopsy was a death metal band from Argentina that released only one demo called Post Mortem (Dessicate Visceral Licuefaction) in 1994 before splitting up. I'm glad they didn't release anything else because this demo is just all sorts of bad.

As with Autopsia Mortal, this demo is so short I'll review it as a song-by-song. It begins with this “eerie” intro complete with “spooky” keyboards and the hooting of owls off in the distance. I swear, it sounds like something out of a no-budget horror movie. Oh, but it gets worse. It gets much worse.

The second song is no longer than the first and just features a bunch of fast, indecipherable riffs accompanied by rapid blast beats and unintelligible growls smothered under horrible muffled production. It sounds like they're trapped inside Satan's ass. The beginning of the third song sounds almost exactly the same as the second song. The riffs sound almost identical. Oh, but now they start playing some chugging riffs near the halfway point. Over halfway through the song they play some “eerie” clean guitars before starting the death metal back up again. The clean guitars just show up without any warning. I guess they added it in a vain attempt to look deep. However, I do like that part near the end of the song that features a tiny bit of guitar noodling and alien noises that sound like they came from Earthbound.

The fourth song consists entirely of cheesy organs accompanied by indecipherable growls. It goes on for two whole minutes. You're not impressing anyone, assholes. The fifth song goes back to actual death metal. I wish they went back to the cheesy organs, because the muddy riffs and aimless blast beats suck worse. I still can't make out the growls. I'm starting to get the feeling the guy pitch-shifted his growls in order to get the proper “demonic” effect. What a hack. There is a pretty nice guitar solo around the halfway point, but it's not enough to pull this song out of the dung heap. The sixth sound sounds almost exactly the same as every other song on this album. Did they just take the same riffs and repeat them over and over again? I swear, they're either insufferably lazy or hopelessly incompetent. Did I mention that the snare drum starts sounding like a tin can around this point?

The outro just consists of a bunch of “spooky” noises. Then it's over. God damn, this demo sucked. The production makes the band sound like they're trapped inside Nurgle's ass, the drummer only knows how to blast until his arms fall off, the vocals are completely unintelligible, and the guitars just play the same damn riffs over and over again. Sure, they play a few nice solos once in a while, but it's too little too late. I'd rather stick my head up a dead cow's ass than listen to this shit again. This demo is horrible and deserves to rot in obscurity.
