Humiliation – Savior of Human Destruction

There are two bands named Humiliation. One is a death metal band from Malaysia. The other is a brutal death metal band from Indonesia. Today we'll be covering the Indonesian Humiliation. They're a rather new band. They formed in 2010 and released their debut album, Savior of Human Destruction, just last year. To my great surprise, these guys are amazing.

The drums are easily the best part about this whole performance. No surprise, given that Iho also plays drums for Disinfected. The blast beats are absolutely furious and unrelenting. I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating, but this guy could give Inferno of Behemoth a run for his money in the blasting department. He also plays a whole bunch of amazing fills. To get an idea of just how wicked talented he is, just listen to his performance on the song “Hamba Sahaya”. Sure, the snare has that hollow thud sound that seems to plague most Indonesian brutal death metal bands, but his awesome performance definitely makes up for it.

The bass is rather prominent in the mix, and there are often times when they'll break away from following the guitars and play some really complex riffs of their own. The vocals consist of a hoarse growl that sounds quite similar to Siksakubur. Some people might feel that these vocals aren't brutal enough, but I think they fit the music quite well. Like Siksakubur, they'll also sometimes perform some gang vocals that add an extra bit of liveliness to the music. However, there are also certain moments where they'll perform these low gutturals that sound similar to Condemned. I like that extra bit of variety.

The guitars are fantastic. They play a lot of aggressive riffs that sound quite similar to Deicide and Cannibal Corpse. Like all other Indonesian brutal death metal bands, they play the obligatory slams, but there are also moments where they'll play a lot of wildly technical riffs that remind me of bands like Killharmonic, which can best be seen on songs like “Sabda Murka”. Their solos are awesome as well. They tear up the fretboard almost as magnificently as Orestes.

The one thing that really took me by surprise was their use of traditional Indonesian instruments that seemed to weave their way through the music in a way that actually enhanced the metal instead of distracting from it. My favorite part would have to be the end of the song “Paradigma” where this guy gives a spoken word performance in Indonesian that is backed up by a great flute performance. There's even this one moment where they start off a song with graceful piano that will put you into a false sense of security before hitting you with brutality.

Savior of Human Destruction is seriously one of the greatest Indonesian brutal death metal albums I've heard in a long time. The vocals are aggressive, the guitars offer up a great mix of technicality and brutality, the drums are just plain fantastic, and I love their inclusion of folk instruments. I don't know what else to say. This album is awesome. Go listen to it now.
