Me'ex – Inmigracion Ancestral

Why do I continue to torture myself like this? If you remember back when I reviewed Me'ex's El Renegado demo, I told him to sell off his Rock Band drumkit and get a job, because it was obvious that making black metal just isn't his thing. He clearly didn't take my advice because he's still making shitty music. He recently released a new demo called Inmigracion Ancestral and I felt obligated to listen to it because I had this foolish belief that he improved his craft. Spoiler warning: he didn't. It still sucks llama lumps.

The most obvious thing you'll notice is that this guy still hasn't bothered to buy a real drum kit. He's still using his Rock Band drumkit. They're incredibly loud and they overpower everything else in the mix, which means that during the blasting parts, all I can hear is “BONK BONK BONK BONK BONK”. At this point, I get the feeling that he's continuing to use his Rock Band drumkit just to spite me. It's like he's trying to tell me, “Fuck you, you fat autistic fuck! I'm an artist! I can do whatever I want, and if I feel like using a Rock Band drumkit, then I'm gonna use a Rock Band drumkit!” Either that or he's a cheapskate who doesn't want to buy a real drumkit. I'm gonna go with the latter.

The vocals are still awful. They still consist of a half-assed scream that has serious sound balancing issues. One minute they'll be all quiet and the next they'll be extremely loud. Mastering? What's that?

The only element that has shown any sort of improvement is the guitar. I take it that the guy behind the band stopped trying to play the guitars himself and decided to pay someone to play the guitars for him. So he had the money to pay someone to play guitars for him yet he didn't have the money to buy himself a real drumkit? Anyway, the guitars on this demo are slightly better than they were on the last demo. The performance doesn't fuck up very often, they actually play tremolo riffs from time to time, and there are even these moments where they play acoustics. However, their performance is still boring as fuck, so they improved in one area but didn't bother to improve another.

Overall, Me'ex is still awful, except for the guitars, which are now only below average. However, I do have to give him credit for one thing: despite getting torn apart by critics, he's still making music. He's like the Ed Wood of black metal.
