Skombros – Quema sus Almas

Skombros was a death/thrash band from Argentina that formed in 1994, released only one demo called Quema sus Almas one year later, and broke up soon after that. Based upon all the shit I've listened to recently, I don't have high hopes for this one.

I must say, this is much better than most of the other stuff I've been listening to, but it still fails to deliver anything that entices me. Though they're labeled as death/thrash, this demo sounds like Soul Of A New Machine-era Fear Factory. The drums play lots of hardcore-influenced mid-paced rhythms, occasionally going into simple blast beats whenever the mood suits him.

The guitars play a lot of chugging riffs that sound like they came straight from Soul Of A New Machine. They also play some strange scratching riffs that actually sound good. They also play some solos that sound like they came from the Bay Area. The vocals consist of a gruff growl that reminds me of Brujeria. It's much better than most of the bad vocals that I've been listening to.

Although their performance is great, my biggest problem with this demo is that it gets way too repetitive. It seems like this demo just drags on and on, and there are certain moments where it almost put me to sleep. This demo is boring, and listening to it seems to sap me of all my energy. As I said before, I'm able to do bad, but I can't do boring.
