There are many metal bands named Necrotomy. This one in particular comes from Hungary. They formed shortly after the fall of communism and released only one demo, Inhuman Mankind, before splitting up. I reviewed another early Hungarian death metal band in the past called Kitten Remains, and I distinctly remember them sucking monkey balls. Will Necrotomy be any better? Let's find out together.
The demo starts off with a cheesy organ performance before transitioning to thrashy-sounding death metal that sounds like it was buried under a mountain of ass and poo. I could hear the organ sequence better than the death metal. So what, you could polish the sound on the cheesy organs but you were unable to clean up the sound on the death metal ie. the reason people bought (or in my case, pirated) this demo in the first place?
It's a shame too because the music on this demo is actually quite decent. The drums play some great blast beats and solid rhythms as well as plenty of sweet fills. The vocals consist of a sick growl that sounds like a young Chris Barnes. It's grisly and nasty and exudes a certain level of evil. As for the guitars, they consist of an all-out death/thrash assault. They play plenty of shredding riffs as well as some menacing chugging riffs. They even play a few stellar solos, most of which can be found on “Particular Merciless”. I especially love the foreboding guitar performance at the beginning of “Atomic Death” and the clean guitars at the beginning of “Bastard Planet”.
Overall, this demo had good music, but it was ruined by the horrible production. This is why you always need to take the time to polish your work. If you don't, then everyone will think you're half-assing it.
