Obliti Devoravit – Obliti Devoravit

Obliti Devoravit is a black metal band from Grand Rapids, Michigan and are a member of a label called Colloquial Sound Recordings along with A Pregnant Light, Aksumite, and This Station Of Life, all of whom happen to come from Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Some of the riffs reminded me of the Greek black metal scene, and others had a rhythmic pattern that was more similar to American black metal, and others sounded like classic heavy metal riffs played through a black metal filter (see the beginning of “The Pack, Manifested”). Some of the riffs had a touch of melody and were even quite catchy at times. When it comes to the drums, because of the lo-fi production, the cymbals are the only things that can be heard clearly. You'll have to strain your ears a bit to hear the other parts of the kit. Then again, this is lo-fi black metal, so what can you do? As for the vocals, they consist of high-pitched shouting. Personally, I think they're annoying, but I'm pretty sure someone out there will like them.

Although I didn't like the vocals, this was a nicely-made album. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to check out the rest of Colloquial Sound's roster.
