Spiritual Inversion – Dreams of Torturous Nights

Spiritual Inversion claims to be a one-man black metal band from the woods of Michigan. Oh boy.

The first song is an intro that is completely pointless and contributes nothing to the overall experience. Not that the overall experience is any good. First of all, it's really loud, and not in a good way. Secondly, there's no reverb effect on his vocals, which further degrades the quality of the music. Seriously, his vocals sound more at home on a hardcore album. After some poorly written and obnoxiously loud black metal, we get a non sequitur slow bit featuring bass and simple drums before going back to the black metal. If you're going to do something like that, you need to have a good reason. This guy didn't really have a good reason, he just thought it would be cool. He does this for the next song too. It starts off with a slow piece consisting of bass and simple drums. The transition from this to the black metal is not handled well at all. Again, it appears he didn't put any thought into why such elements would be necessary.

Overall, this guy is great at playing the blues, but he's not very good with black metal. This album is a haphazard, awkwardly constructed mess with no rhyme or reason given to its design.
