Blasphemeth is a black metal band that hail from... Costa Rica. Oh boy. I know from experience that Costa Rica has one of the worst metal scenes in the entire world. Will this be any good? I doubt it.
Well, their music isn't atrociously bad, but boy is it mediocre. The production is quite muffled and it's hard to make out certain elements. Then again, this is a black metal demo, so bad production is par for the course. What I won't look over, though, is the lackluster musicianship. The drums are incapable of playing anything more than simple beats. I don't think this guy is even capable of performing blast beats.
The vocals consist of muffled howls that don't really do anything to stand out from the crowd. They sound completely stock. As for the guitars, they can only play the same tremolo riffs over and over again. I'm all for repetition if it's done right. Bands like Branikald can pull off repetition in a way that can build an enthralling atmosphere. In the case of Blasphemeth, they use repetition in order to cover up the fact that they don't know any riffs.
Overall, Blasphemeth is nowhere near as bad as Muerte or Morbid Symphonies, but they're still mediocre, and they further reinforce the notion that Costa Rica has one of the worst metal scenes in the world.
