There are three things you need to know about Digoxin: they are a brutal death metal band from the United States, they are a joke band, the joke isn't funny, and they suck. Four things.
The intro consists of one of the band members telling the prologue to some nonsensical scifi story before leading into the music proper. I wish they stuck to talking about that scifi story, because the music is all sorts of bad. First of all, the production is awful. If you plan to make brutal death metal, you need to have a production that is forceful yet clear. The production here is quite muffled, especially when it comes to the vocals. I understand that they might not have a lot of money and can't afford to spend time in a professional studio, but this is 2013. We now have technology that can make even bedroom recordings sound professional. There should be no excuse for the production to be this shitty. Come on, you should at least buy a microphone that costs more than ten dollars.
The drums are obviously programmed and only play simple rhythms and blast beats. They're totally stock. The guitars can only play two things: fast chugs and slow chugs. I don't mind constant chugging as long as it's done right. However, when I listen to this, I get the impression that they play chugs because they don't know how to play anything else. The vocals are that “sick” and “evil” guttural growl that is used by almost every slam band in existence. However, they change things up a bit by occasionally performing these falsetto screams. LOL SO WACKY! Ha ha just kidding they suck. You're not funny, you're just annoying.
There are plenty of bands that can act all silly and still make great music. Just look at Terapi Urine. Digoxin is not one of those bands. They use silliness in order to cover up their lackluster musicianship. If you were to take away the wackiness, then you're left with a mediocre slam band that can't write interesting music if its life depended on it. The only good thing I can say about this demo is that it's short. Just a little over four minutes. At least the suffering wasn't horribly long like it is with so many other atrocious metal releases.
