Breed Infection – The Maze of the Inaccurate Assumptions

I'm surprised I've gone this long without talking about the Iranian metal scene. Despite living in a country that is ruled by oppressive assholes, the metal scene in that area is quite vibrant. Of course, since this government makes the people feel small and powerless, the scene mostly consist of depressive black metal. The most prominent bands include Emerna, Ekove Efrits, and Nazhand. However, there are a few brutal death metal bands in the region, and I picked Breed Infection at random for the purposes of this review. Let's see what they have to offer.

The first thing I noticed were the vocals. They consist of this swampy, gurgling croak that sort of reminds me of Cephalotripsy. I really dig 'em. As for the instrumentation, it's your run-of-the-mill slam, nothing special. The drums play at a moderate pace, occasionally picking up the pace to do some blast beats and double bass and whatnot. The guitars are the same way. They usually play some simple slam riffs with a few pinch harmonics thrown in for good measure before flying into faster shredding assaults. These guys play their instruments well, but it just feels like they're retreading an extremely worn path.

Since this EP is so short there isn't much else to say. It isn't bad by any means, it's just unoriginal. These guys can play their instruments well and the guitars play a few good licks, but they need to think outside the brutal slam box.
