Gore Infamous is a brutal death metal band from Bandung, Indonesia whose name comes from two older Indonesian brutal death metal bands, Bloody Gore and Dirty Infamous. I was drawn to their first EP, Cadaver in Methodical Overture, by the cover art, which was created by a man named Gustav Insuffer, who also did the cover art for Turbidity's full-length debut, Suffering of Human Decapitated. Let's hope the music is just as good as the cover.
Right from the beginning, it's obvious that their music is heavily influenced by the brutal death metal bands from California (I also hear a bit of Cenotaph in there), but it still has an Indonesian vibe to it. Unlike most other Indonesian brutal death metal bands, the production on this EP is quite decent. I can hear all the instruments clearly. None of it sounds muffled. Although, I do wish the drums had more punch to them.
Speaking of drums, the double bass is non-stop, although I do wish they didn't sound like a typewriter. The blasts are also pretty good. Nothing original, but still good. The growls are absolutely guttural. They remind me of Angel Ochoa, and he sounds like he's gargling on the fetid brain juices of a rotting cadaver. I love 'em. As I said before, the guitars sound very similar to Californian bands like Condemned. It's an endless wave of down-tuned shredding with some pinch harmonics and grooves thrown in for good measure. Like the drums, they're nothing original, but they sound great and they do their job well.
Overall, while this EP might not have been all that original, the musicians are pretty skilled are offer up a pretty decent chunk of brutality. Now all they need to do is fix their production problems and they'll be good to go.
