ReverbNation Spotlight: Wisik

As I've said in the past, the black metal scene in Indonesia is starting to become much larger, and since it's becoming larger, it's starting to become more diverse. They're experimenting with all sorts of different sounds and styles. The latest Indonesian black metal band to catch my ear is Wisik, who play music that is deliciously raw.

Let me start off by saying that I love the lo-fi production. This isn't digital lo-fi either. This is pure, sweet analog lo-fi, just as the dark lords of black metal intended. The music is pretty sweet too. The drums play a lot of simple, rampaging blast beats as well as some intricate cymbal work and plenty of fills. The vocals consist of a cloudy, manic scream that sound like an imp that has lost his damn mind. The guitars play a lot of riffs that are heavily inspired by the Norwegian black metal scene. They play those riffs really well, so there's no problem with that. In fact, when you combine those cold riffs with the lo-fi production, it'll make you feel like you're in the early 90s again.

I love these guys so much. It's so deliciously raw. If you're a fan of lo-fi black metal, then you just might get a kick out of Wisik.
